For a european “matriotism”

With this text we accept the invitation to a European assembly carried out by Euronomade

We inaugurated the political year of the Municipi sociali of Bologna with a wide-ranging discussion on the topics squared by the new political era we called “Beyond human”; determined, it seemed to us, by the real subsumption of everything to the “algorithm of financial command”, in which mutually connected although dialectical subsystems move, immersed in the ecological crisis.

We are living in times of great change: a new era, in which the long and short term cycles of history meet, creating technological disruptions, wars, pandemics with effects on the hybrid dimensions of space, Earth and digital, dimensions in which the powers and counter-powers of empires and states, of large aggregates of capital and technologies, of scientific research are redefined.

The third pandemic spring had its gaze turned to the post-pandemic era, but immediately found itself enlisted in the mud of the Putin invasion of Ukraine; we are therefore talking about the same things, but along an enormous acceleration, because the reasons for this imperial aggression by the Russian subsystem of the financial Command are multiple: geopolitical, energetical, strategical reasons, thus internal to the things we discussed in September.

The war in Europe induces us to build a comprehensive, general and adequate political response, it pushes us to operate both with lucidity and dare, making choices that are not opportunistic, but that are at least comparable to the hardness of the level of conflict darn raised by Putin, to the level of historical changes that this conflict accellerated; in other terms, this time we can not get away with ritual formulas, which could only be useful to position ourselves in a political scenario that appears light years away from today.

Let’s start by ‘putting down some red lines’ in our reasoning.

Putin has attacked Ukraine, a sovereign country, not a narco-state or a territory bound to contractual obediences.

At the moment, the right to resist the Russian invasion is being practiced in Ukraine: a general,

widespread, articulated, community resistance, unforeseen both by the Russians and by many other political actors. Denying the evidence is impossible.

This resistance stands today, after four weeks of war, on the request to enter Europe (and not NATO). It does not only call for the reception in Europe of displaced people, but also to help them in their resistance and to make accurate political choices in the relationship with their country. In short, Europe has been asked to do politics from Ukraine, in addition to the volunteering and the assistance that hundreds of thousands of solidarity workers already do well from below, hundreds of cities – historically the heart of our Europe – and churches – sometimes friends, often enemies of Europe.

The whole debate seems to be about whether to be for or against sending weapons. Instead, we think that it is important to orient our behavior to a political vision, with our feet firmly planted in the reality that is materializing. We must support the right of war refugees to return home. We must reject the military use of desplazados and support their right to return to their country, to frenly move around Europe but without being forced to leave their home. The burning border of Ukraine is the space of resistance to the abandonment of cities: we welcome

those who want to escape, we organize the escape if necessary, but why don’t we try to politicize the border and organize a new Europe from there?

This is what we, as Europeans in Europe, have to do: politics.

The geopolitical scenario is disrupter and will probably still be shaken by many other dramatic events for long years to come, because in this new world of the” Beyond Human ” balance – if there will be any – will be sought in the epochal geological and historical movements, between imperial and continental islands of subsystems.

In any new geopolitical era, things happen within time of historical dimension, not made of hours but of decades, accelerations and karst processes: war and peace, long networks and borrowed sovranisms, renmimbi and bitcoin but also barter, recycling and reconversions of materials and ideas coming from the past.

This month of war in Europe exposed the dramatic lack of Europe. All the shortcomings are now clear, the weight of the choices not made – or made really badly -, the mistakes of the non- construction of the European political system. It took a pandemic to create bonds on reconstruction.

There must be a war to discuss common and community energy policy, which for us can only be a total energetic transition out of extractivist policies. We should have done it earlier, we have to do it now. In this new era we must be present as a continental and integrated dimension, otherwise we will have to shoot. On the contrary: they shoot us and we are outraged at the most, and then we ask the UN to deal with it, like climbing in Nepal with flip- flops.

The European continent, sabotaged for decades as a political project by parasitic intra- European national interests or extra-European speculators, is the missing option between the already operative subsystems in the post-human era, everyone says.

For us, politics now means fighting for the construction of a strong European political option, against state mediation, beyond any national culture.

It means fighting for the political choice to found the United States of Europe, with a newly written European constitution, universal rights, common self-defense and shared self-defense to be invented.

Are we talking about European nationalism? Let’s stand on the merits of things, shall we not enter into nominalistic debates. How do we build our field of forces against the war economy? Do we want France to continue on nuclear power, Germany to return to coal, Italy to drill its own seas, each in no particular order?

Or do we want to fight for an autonomous European energetic community to face together – now! – the challenge of ecological conversion, freeing ourselves from the terrorist dictatorship of hydrocarbons? If we had long ago abandoned the comfort zone of Russian pipe lines, we would have been much freer now.

We consider the topic of Space, YES, Space – a decisive topic for Europe.

Do we build our own system of putting satellites into the orbit, or do we resign ourselves to the idea that we will depend on Elon Musk and his fleet of satellites?

And, at the same time, are we fighting for an employment contract, a health system, a commonare? If all this is called calling ourselves “European Patriots” with a language of the past, or rather “Matriotists”, intended as a definitive choice for Europe, then we are. The focal point remains and is what we fight for. Let’s make Europe and fight within it.

Only in the constituent process of the United States of Europe we can construct the Democratic confederalist option, our option. In its absence, we will again be harnessed to the non-terrifying place of the crisis of European nation-states, without breathing air

to fight in a larger space than our cities.

Either constituent process and within it radical and partisan struggle, Revolutionary of European Matriotists, or political stagnation.
